The BMW R80 Cafe Racer! This game asset was heavily inspired by ROA Motorcycles custom build. The goal was to treated it more as a cinematic model than anything else. Wasn't too concerned with polycount since I wanted really close up shots (within reason). This was all rendered using Marmoset Toolbag 4 and it's new raytracing functionality! The bike itself was all created from scratch using Maya and Substance Painter. The environment was also done in Maya with the assistance of Megascans for the textures!

Was a fun project and feels good to finally finish a personal piece after like 2 years of nothing. The goal was to try to push realism while still having some fun creative control in the texturing. Wanted to bike to feel used so there can be cool textural information but not necessarily covered in mud and having lots of paint chipping/edgewear.

This was an interesting one though, since I started it at the beginning of 2020. I've learned a whole lot over the past year so whenever I returned to this mesh, I'd be upset at the way I did things in the past and would feel the urge to go back and rebuild it. Caused an endless cycle of "is this good enough?" It eventually got to the point where I'd look at it and feel nothing so I'm happy to send it out and either watch it crash or sail into the sunset.
